HSE CRLP Texas A&M University Aggieland Saturday Visit, HOWDY!

Dear all,

HSE CRLP Students were at Texas A&M University to join Aggieland Saturday, an annual campus-wide open house the last Saturday, Feb 10th.

Our student had an opportunity to meet current students and our alumni, to learn more about our colleges and majors, got information about admission, financial aid, scholarships, etc. and some promotional items.

We also had taken a guided tour and seen the beautiful sites on the A&M Campus, enjoyed the performance of Corps of Cadets and had wonderful dining.

I would like to thank all of our fantastic CRLP Mentors and mentees.

Best regards,

Serdar Ozguven

Celebrating Black History Month

This February, as we celebrate Black History Month, we will celebrate and honor the exceptional achievements made by those before us.
Let’s take the time to acknowledge and reflect on the sacrifices and courageous acts of the African-American community and remember that we are better and greater together.

HSE Austin 7th Annual Science Trip: Catalina Island Marine Institute

The Catalina Island Science Trip was exhausting & oh-so-successful!
It seems our kids touched on a bit of everything. It was overwhelming & wonderful! Highlights include:
-squid dissection
-ocean kayaking (a curious sea lion flirted between our group!)
-invertebrate lab
-plate tectonics, subduction, channel island formation & geology -marine mammals (multiple sightings of whales & dolphin pods, some 40+ in pop.)
-learned about buoyancy, how to snorkel in salt water, & fight fear
-completed a full moon night snorkel
-island ecology (ask kids about dwarfism & the island fox)
-shark & ray touch tank
-teambuilding exercises
-plankton lab
-high & low ropes course
-astronomy evening program
-challenging ridge hike
-fisheries awareness
-deep sea biology
-survived no cell service for 6 days
-discovered how humans impact marine environments
-debriefed the experiences with a memorable campfire
I believe our students are stronger mentally & physically, & exude more confidence in STEAM subjects. Thanks for supporting our crew, from buying hot cocoa to encouraging students to sign up. There is no substitute for hands-on learning.
Make science great again!”
